Strong food systems require strong local networks—but how do you build a coalition from the ground up, especially with limited resources? This session explores collaborative infrastructure—the structured, trust-based relationships among community members, organizers, government, and service providers that enable long-term, community-driven change. It's how we pool resources, align on shared goals, and collectively sustain action.

We will be joined by Lindsey Scalera and Rachel Kelly, authors of the Michigan Good Food Charter, to lead us through the how of coalition building. From defining collaboration and partnership to building coalitions rooted in trust, using real-world examples of local food systems strategic planning. We’ll also explore how coalitions not only strategize but distribute resources equitably—boosting advocacy, increasing capacity, and making communities more resilient.

Whether you're launching a new initiative or strengthening an existing network, this interactive session will provide tools, reflections, and practical steps to build and sustain collaboration where you are.
